Ста­тья посвя­ще­на само­му спор­но­му вопро­су био­гра­фии киев­ско­го кня­зя Рюри­ка Рости­сла­ви­ча – одно­го из круп­ней­ших древ­не­рус­ских кня­зей рубе­жа XII–XIII вв., а имен­но дате и месте его смер­ти. Несмот­ря на оче­вид­ные сви­де­тель­ства лето­пи­сей, автор, про­ана­ли­зи­ро­вав име­ю­щий­ся мате­ри­ал (осо­бое вни­ма­ние было уде­ле­но поли­ти­че­ской ситу­а­ции того вре­ме­ни), пред­по­ло­жил, что князь нико­гда не пра­вил в Чер­ни­го­ве, а его «кня­же­ние» явля­ет­ся ошиб­кой, тира­жи­ро­ван­ной в даль­ней­шем дру­ги­ми лето­пи­ся­ми. В ста­тье пред­ло­же­ны воз­мож­ные при­чи­ны тако­го сооб­ще­ния. Одна­ко труд­но пол­но­стью игно­ри­ро­вать изве­стие о пре­бы­ва­нии Рюри­ка в Чер­ни­го­ве, где его ста­тус не имел ниче­го обще­го с прав­ле­ни­ем в сто­ли­це Ольговичей.

Abstract
The article is devoted to the most controversial issue of the biography of Kiev Prince Ryurik Rostislavich – one of the greatest ancient Russian princes at the turn of the XII–XIII centuries, namely the date and place of his death. Despite the obvious evidence of the chronicles, the author, analyzing the material available, paying special attention to the political situation of that time, suggested that the prince never ruled Chernigov, and his «reign» is a mistake, later replicated in other chronicles. The possible causes of such a message are suggested in the article. However, it is difficult to completely ignore the news of Ryurik’s stay in Chernigov, where his status had nothing to do with the ruling in the capital of Olgovichi. The main reason for his fall — the loss of support from the princes and allies, which led to the decline of his political career. According to the author, the date of death of Ryurik Rostislavich pointed in old chronicles, are the result of an error. The former Prince of Kiev died soon after 1210.
